The Permanent Mission of Afghanistan

The Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations is the legitimate and accredited diplomatic representation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Since the forced takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban in August 2021, it has been representing the interests of the people of Afghanistan, especially the voices and demands of the suppressed and vulnerable people in Afghanistan. Our mission is to represent Afghanistan and its people with dignity, honor, and integrity while defending their legitimate rights at the international level. We are committed to promoting and protecting the fundamental human rights of all Afghans, including women, youth, and minorities, and achieving permanent peace, stability, and prosperity in an inclusive and democratic Afghanistan.

At the United Nations, we work tirelessly to promote the interests of Afghanistan and its people in areas such as peace, security, development, and human rights. Our main objective is to ensure that the rights of all Afghans are protected and preserved in line with the UN Charter and international human rights principles. We are committed to working with our international partners to achieve our objectives, and we believe that our work at the United Nations plays an essential role in promoting a better future for Afghanistan and its people.

Biography

Biography of Mr. Naseer Faiq

Mr. Naseer Faiq is a distinguished diplomat and current Charge d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations in New York. Born and raised in Afghanistan, Mr. Faiq began his career in politics after joining the Afghanistan Foreign Service in 2005.

Over the years, Mr. Faiq has held various high-profile positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan. He has served as the Deputy Director General for Regional Cooperation Directorate twice, once from 2016-2019 and again in 2012-2013. Mr. Faiq has also served as a Minister Counsellor, Counsellor, and Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations from 2008-2019.

As a career diplomat, Mr. Faiq has been involved in many international conferences and forums. He has represented Afghanistan on the global stage on issues including human rights, regional cooperation, and political coordination. During his time at the United Nations, Mr. Faiq managed Afghanistan’s successful election to the Human Rights Council in October 2017 and was instrumental in negotiating outcome documents and resolutions.

Mr. Faiq is highly educated, having received a bachelor’s degree in Administration and Diplomacy from Kabul University and a master’s degree in Administrative Science from Farleigh Dickinson University.

In December 2021, Mr. Faiq was appointed as Charge d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the UN in New York, a role that he is eminently qualified for and that he is likely to excel in. His diplomatic experience, expertise, commitment and leadership skills make him a valuable asset to the people of Afghanistan for representing them at the international platforms.
